Spain's legacy

Prehistory

Immerse yourself in the remote past and discover the fascinating history of our ancestors in some of the most important archaeological sites in the world.

Megalithic monuments

The Andalusian province of Málaga has the Antequera Dolmens Archaeological Complex, an example of one of the first forms of prehistoric monumental architecture.

Phoenicians and carthaginians

The arrival, around the year 1000 BC, of the Phoenicians led to the foundation of several coastal colonies. The Carthaginians, or Punics, also founded several trading and naval colonies in Hispania.

Roman Hispania

Our country has countless monuments and activities related to ancient Rome.

Visigoth culture

After Roman rule, it was the Visigoths who exercised control of Hispania from the middle of the 5th century to the start of the 8th century AD, especially in the central area of the country.

Al-andalus art

The Al-Andalus influence developed into a purely Spanish artistic style, fruit of the fusion of Christian and Muslim culture.

The Christians

The Christian Reconquista brought with it one of the most outstanding styles in our artistic heritage: The Romanesque.

Sephardic culture

Jewish culture in Spain goes back thousands of years. The Jews were a prosperous community during the Middle Ages.
